May 2025
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
The season of Lent is finally over. The season of Easter to celebrate Christ’s new life in us and for the world has begun. It’s a stark contrast between the two seasons: Lent allows the church to draw closer to Christ in repentance and gratitude for all he has done on the cross. During Lent the saving acts of God were marked in Holy Week with special Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday services. Then we went from Good Friday to Easter, from darkness to light, from death to life. On Easter Sunday, the same declaration which the church for 2,000 years was made: Alleluia. Christ is risen.
Special Events in May and June
May 18—Service of Baptism at 10:30. It’s still not too late for a baptismal preparation class, but the deadline to contact the office is May 12.
On May 25 at 10:30, the principal and staff members of Bellehaven Elementary will be joining us to say thank you. Please stick around after the service to get to know them better.
June 8: Bishop Steven Tighe will be here for his annual visitation. Included in his visit is the annual Confirmation and Reception service at 10:30. If you are interested in being received or confirmed, or want to know what the terms mean, please contact the office.
Vestry News
At the April Vestry meeting, it was decided to have a Vestry Retreat on June 21. It’s an extended opportunity for the new Vestry to get to know each other, pray, and do some planning work for the future. Please keep the Vestry in your prayers. You’ll be hearing about the results after the meeting.
Finally, you may have noticed new people on Sundays. In 2024, the average Sunday attendance was 120. In 2025 it’s averaging 131. Attendance doesn’t tell the whole story, but it tells a story, and, while not a huge increase, it’s an increase. We’re not alone. Locally and nationally, churches faithful to Christ report nearing or exceeding attendance levels last seen before the pandemic five years ago. I’m grateful to the Lord for your continued faithfulness and for new brothers and sisters in Christ. They are such an encouragement in our life together. Let’s pray this trajectory continues in our mission of “sharing the love of Jesus Christ through prayer, worship, teaching, fellowship and service” in Easter season and beyond.
Yours in Christ,
Rev. Pete Falk
